SHMP stands for Sodium Hexametaphosphate which is nothing more than naturally occurring sodium carbonate heated together with a product of phosphate rock. It is a free-flowing, white powder typically used in the chemical manufacturing, mining and water treatment applications.
Availability
We can offer SHMP of Chinese origin in standard packing sizes of 25 kg and 50 kg HDPE bags.
Uses
Usage Chemistry
In boilers, SHMP converts Calcium ions in water to a form of Calcium Phosphate known as hydroxyapatite, Ca5(OH)(PO4)3. Hydroxyapatite forms a loose, fluffy precipitate that can be dispersed in the water with the aid of a polymer, and removed with blowdown. This effectively prevents mineral scale deposits from forming in the boiler. Phosphate is added to the boiler to precipitate calcium hardness entering from the feedwater.
